PQ Scholarships are awarded to researchers from all areas of knowledge with the aim of distinguishing their work and valuing their production. Among the criteria for granting are scientific production, participation in the training of human resources and effective contribution to the research area.

As the number is limited the competition is very big. These scholarships are awarded through an announcement published annually and the judgment and classification of the proposals are made in the following stages:

a) analysis by the technical area;

b) analysis by ad hoc consultants;

c) comparative analysis of merit and classification of proposals by specific Advisory Committees (CAs) (http://www.cnpq.br/web/guest/criterios-de-julgamento/); and

d) final decision by the Board, depending on CNPq's financial availability.

To be a Researcher 1, a minimum of 8 (eight) years of doctorate is required at the time of the grant implementation and to be a Researcher 2, a minimum of 3 (three) years of a doctorate is required at the time of the grant implementation.

For category 1, the researcher will be framed in four different levels (A, B, C or D), based on a comparative basis between their peers and data from the last 10 (ten) years, including those that demonstrate capacity for continuous training of human resources. For category 2, in which there is no level specification, the researcher's productivity will be evaluated, with emphasis on published works and orientations, both referring to the last 5 (five) years.phone: (83) 2101-1054
